Traditional Window Awnings

Often called "residential," the style has been around in one form or another for many years.Its appearance is soft and inviting, without pretense. The primary purpose of the residential awning is to provide shade, but increasingly, the traditional awning is used to create an aesthetic statement. Today's modern colors, patterns and fabric longevity help promote the depth and character an awning can impact. Besides aesthetics and shade the residential awning is often used to shield the open window from rain, which is not only a mess but can be destructive to some of the beautiful woods used in today's windows.

Traditional awnings are the most economical style of awning. Residential awnings can be set up with ropes and pulleys to raise and lower, depending on weather. For awnings not normally moved through the season we often brace them in the extended position to protect from wind. Since the braced awning will not be rotated often, the projection is increased to provide additional shade.

Typically traditional awnings are fabricated using woven, acrylic fabrics, which are the most resistant to UV dry rot and fade of all fabrics. We do all stitching with a Teflon thread to avoid premature thread failure. To promote a smooth monoplane appearance our residentials are created using a 6" frame pocket which totally encloses the frame. Valances are located based on frame size. All pocket cut-outs are integrated into the fabrication and reinforced for longevity. Awning perimeter is always completed with finished hems.
