May: Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May: Skin Cancer Awareness Month
May is Skin Cancer Awareness month and we are helping spread the word about the need to protect yourself and your family.  The vast majority of skin cancer cases can be avoided by limiting your exposure to ultra-violet (UV) rays.
Did you know?
  • Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 3.5 million skin cancers in over two million people are diagnosed annually.
  • A person’s risk for melanoma doubles if he or she has had more than five sunburns.
  • One or more blistering sunburns in childhood or adolescence more than double a person’s chances of developing melanoma later in life.
Protecting yourself from the sun is important to your long-term health.
To enjoy the sun without risking your health, make sure that you avoid overexposure. One of the key ways to do that is to seek the shade, especially between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
Investing in an awning or deck canopy can be critical to making your outdoor living space an enjoyable and safe place.  A roll-out awning you can extend your outdoor living space with virtually no-maintenance.  It’s out when you need it and in when you don’t.  If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, a deck canopy can provide sun protection while becoming a stylish extension to your home.
